Congress can only impeach for high crimes & misdemeanors, but the constitution just says "the Judges, both of the supreme and inferior Courts, shall hold their Offices during good Behaviour." What is the "Office" -- is it 2d Circuit judge, appellate judge, or just "judge"? If Office just means a federal judgeship, Congress could theoretically send all the lib appellate court judges down to the WD Arkansas. As long as they keep them at the same rate of pay there's no violation.

This kind of chicanery seems a lot more plausible than libs' court packing fever dreams.

Court packing seems more plausible because the amount of justices is something congress decides.

The term “office” is likely going to be defined by judged and a conservative scotus (assuming no court packing) would likely not let the Dems fuck around with that

When they are confirmed my Congress, it's to fill a specific vacancy on a specific court. If instead the judges are going into a lottery that allows them to be assigned wherever, someone should make that clear during the confirmation process.

no, the clause strongly implies that once congress makes the initial appointment, their role on doing anything with that judge is done. except if bad behavior
