Almost every scene is iconic and well-executed, and IMO compares favorably to similar scenes in ESB. Yavin is better than Hoth (and IMO the best action sequence of the series), Obi-Wan’s death is better than Han getting frozen, the opening is WAY better, I could go on. I think Empire gets elevated because of its twist and for being “darker,” but darker =/= better and the twist is ultimately a soap opera retcon.
