Date: July 19th, 2018 5:42 PM Author: Obsidian Kitchen Movie is bottom half of Coen bros. for me. Not Lady Killers or Intolerable Cruelty bad, but not nearly on the level of Raising Arizona or Serious Man.
The show seemed to lack any confidence in its own ability to tell a good story and develop believable characters. It consistently reverted to references, improbable plot devices and other schtick rather than just sticking to its guns and telling an interesting story. |

I bought into this as an homage to other Coen Villains in this vein (e.g. Anton Sigur) I guess it was after the flash forward that he became crushingly mundane; making easily correctable mistakes and, basically, becoming human. This had to happen to come to the ultimate conclusion but didn’t seem genuine or consistent with the way he was portrayed previously. His henchmen ended up being doofuses, his scheme was cracked by a single, low level IRS agent and all he needed to do was pay some taxes and he would have been fine all along.
