Epic disaster in which the US commander, despite vastly outnumbering the British forces, threw away every tactical advantage, the troops were routed, followed by the immediate sacking and burning of Washington DC, and the government and the POTUS fleeing the capital (POTUS spent the night hiding in a shed).
Fun fact: after seizing the Capitol, the British army held a mock session of Congress in which the troops “voted unanimously” to burn Washington to the ground. |
