before the smartphone, normie internet just wasn't a thing. regular people just didn't use the internet or social media very much. it was mostly tech nerds, professionals, and gamers, and everything on the internet was built for and geared toward those demographics - i.e. reasonably intelligent people
it was only in the late 2000s that smartphones began to become affordable and designed for and used by the general public. once normies had easy access to the internet through smartphones, everything gradually became dumbed down to the lowest common denominator. the bigger your reach, the more money you can make, so corporations began to homogenize and sanitize everything to make sure they could accommodate even the absolute dregs of society
the bad news is that this problem is only going to get worse. big tech corps are now pushing for internet colonization of the third world in order to expand their reach and profits. if you thought that spoiled white girls and 80 IQ hot takes from ghetto minorities on twitter were as bad as it could get, prepare yourself for Idiocracy literally coming to life before your eyes |

the reason why you remember it this way is because you were probably a regular internet user at the time, and associated mostly with other regular internet users in the categories i listed above, because you were young and a professional or on a professional career track |

But the real problem is the internet, not how we access it. And I think there was a special cocktail when women got online. Men might become shut-ins, or porn addicts, and that is a legitimate conversation.
But women.... holy God.... women just got destroyed by this thing. It took everything they lived for (social ties, family, love and children) and destroyed them, and then tore open their most vulnerable fears (competition, attractiveness, access to resources).
Women may never recover. |
