when it first aired, I remember calling it in the middle of season 1 that the island was basically purgatory or whatever and they were all dead already, trying to work out their personal demons before "moving on". it wasn't that difficult to see. Still enjoyed it overall, and so far, it's pretty fresh not having seen it for like 10 years.

also the flashbacks/character development were always stronger than the overall plotline anyway

kinda weird that none of the actors have done anything of note since, though

yeah I just mean that it goes by so FUCKING FAST. like one minute you're watching Lost live and then you blink and whoops, now you're in your 30s, good luck with that

time accelerates as you age. when you are a kid one year takes a long time, but as an adult one year goes by faster and faster as you get older. it is what it is.

I don't think that's correct, but again, it's been forever since I watched all of it

already in season 1, there are tons of allusions to it, like the Korean woman straight up says at one point "do you think we're being punished for our pasts?"

you think the kooky "smoke monster" was real? lol

No. This is completely wrong. The purgatory was the flash forward scenes in the last season.

hmmm ok will report back when I rewatch enough of it

just seems like wayyy too much supernatural stuff (smoke monster, polar bears from Walt's imagination, magic numbers, etc. etc.)

also a plane crash in which the entire tail section rips off and somehow 50 fucking people survive? zero chance

couple observations through Season 1:

- biggest thing that jumps out at me upon rewatch is how fucking easily they all seem to make fire. There are large bonfires constantly, and whenever they go out at night, they have these super effective torches fueled by god knows what. Seems weird that all these random passengers would know how to make fire from scratch at a moment's notice.

- LOL at the title sequence, literally looks like a middle schooler played around in iMovie, just chose a font and made the word twist around

yeah it's kinda lame knowing all the major plot points, but as I said above, the character backstories are more fascinating to me. Some of the best character development of all time, I think. They devote tons of time to it every episode, and they're all interesting in their own way

Locke's, for example, is just devastating

Look, developing a mystery with no interesting solution is just dumb. That's what we have with Lost. It is totally obvious that they were stringing us along and at the end they were like "oh fuck, we have to wrap this up. Uh, it is MAGIC... That's why stuff happens. And, like, it's purgatory."

Anyone who ends a story like that with "it was magic", "it was a dream", etc. needs to be publicly flogged.

that's the problem with starting a series with no clear end in sight from the beginning. I feel like limited series are the way of the future, or perhaps even hour-long single episodes like Black Mirror. Prestige TV, as opposed to network TV (which is only really watched now by braindead boomers), seems to be catching onto this. Just make it like a long movie.

Ok, but even then don't do a mystery that ends with "it was a dream" or "it was magic". That's just cheap and dumb.

The Leftovers had the same problem, would've actually been more interesting if they had just left unanswered questions at the end of Season 1 and called it a day, but they tried to do too many things in the next two

I loved it.

I still watch episodes here & there, & think they hold up well.

But the last season & the ending were quite a let down.
