Chances of US breaking up in our lifetimes?

Still, I'm thinking it's a bridge to far and nothing happens in our lifetime. |

Eg. if Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia, Oklahoma, S/N Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky and West Virginia declared independence right now, I think there would be 10 years of economic sanctions, but then the US would give up. |

Date: August 15th, 2018 3:36 PM Author: twisted organic girlfriend mexican I don't think there is the will to fight a war against a group of seceding red states. If anything, it would seem that the powers that be in blue states would cheer this.
Two things would seem to be the sticking point:
1. Federal land and military installations. This is what tripped up the last attempt at secession (no Ft. Sumter, probably no civil war).
2. Share of the federal debt. I'm not sure how the remaining states will fee about continuing to be on the hook for a large amount of federal debt while the exceeding states wipe their books clean. |

Plus the American people are too nationalist/patriotic to want to leave the Union. Even Texas, which might be the most logical state to secede, will never do it.
