Wife's 35th bday is in mid October. Her mom is going to be out of town so we have the kid with us all of that weekend. I want to do something fun with her. Must include some fun/tasty meals and an activity or two. We've been together 15 years, so I'm having a hard time thinking of something fun to do for the day (especially with the limitation of having our 14 month old son with us). We always surprise each other for our birthdays - and it's always something different.

Other info: We live in Woodland Hills in the San Fernando Valley. Cost doesn't matter - she doesn't care if it is expensive or cheap. She doesn't want to do any fancy dinners with the baby. She has a lot of interests but likes books, video games, movies, museums, theme parks, candy/chocolate, and Disney shit.

Ideas appreciated.

You'd be happier if you just did the things you enjoyed without caring what other people think. I love chain restaurants, Disney, and lots of other prole things. My life is 180 and I'm happy as fuck.

I think Disney is significantly more prole than chain restaurants because Disney is a cultural thing rather than just a convenience/taste thing.

But you're probably right - I should work on that.

For my wife's bday a couple weeks ago i found an airbnb tipi to stay in near a cool little town. It was on a creek/river with a waterfall, had a fire pit inside the tipi and cool nature stuff around.

I don't know how old your kid is, but I want to go back with mine bc it was a lot of fun. Wife enjoyed it too.

Book a reservation at a restaurant in Disneyland and pay for character photos with your family. Having your kid with you is a big limiting factor.

Wife doesn't care about expensive things. She is 180. We have millions and she hasn't bought any shoes or purses over $100 ever. She has a LV purse my mom bought her a couple years back (because my mom spends like a 16 year old girl) and she has an Omega watch her dad gave her for college graduation. Other than that she doesn't have any expensive stuff.

Not. We bought it all at Ashley Furniture. My friend's mom is a district manager so we got everything slightly above their cost too. I think we furnished our entire house for like 6k (4 bed, 5 bath, plus bonus room - 3,400 sq/ft).

Get her a Cartier love bracelet. It's 10k, not very functional but looks 180.

Fly to Vegas for a day (you can do semi private planes from SNA/Burbank for cheap now, 500 per ticket range). Aria has a huge spa suite where you can rent for couples, it's like your own private spa. 1k for 5 or 6 hours. Get massages, FK, rinse and repeat. They can set it up with your generic love b.s. (candles, flowers, etc).

Wife doesn't like jewelry (thank god). We also just spent 4 days in Vegas for the CAALA convention. We did a couples massage at the Wynn spa, ate lots of nice dinners, etc. So it's a bit too soon to go back.

Know you're a zoo dude + 14-month-old -- San Diego Zoo has some cool private tours. SD children's museum is great for the little dude.

Santa Barbara seems like a natural option. You could get a sitter from the hotel for an afternoon/evening out with your wife. We chartered a sailboat while we were there (with family) and it was great and definitely kid-friendly.

Have you been to Disney World?

Santa Barbara Zoo and a hotel sounds like fun. I'll look into the San Diego Zoo private tours. Sounds like there is some potential there.

Yes, we took my twin bro/sis there is 2013 when they were 13. We went for a week. We don't want to go back until our son is at least 5 though. I don't think it would be fun with a 14 month old.

I’d prob do something easy like drive down to SD area. Stay at the l’auberge Del Mar, go to legoland as one kid-friendly activity or go to the race track if it’s open. Plenty of dining options around and kid and dog friendly hotel.

Stay at a resort or rent a nice home out in the Palm Springs area. Weather will be pretty good out there by then. Take the kiddo to the Living Desert (it's the zoo in Palm Desert), take the tram up to the top of San Jacinto and do a hike with your little guy strapped to your back, and do a day trip up to Joshua Tree. We own a timeshare at the Marriott Shadow Ridge and it's a fun place to stay if you have a little one. They've got two separate pool areas with lots of water play/splashzones that cater to toddlers.

Your kid is too small to have any fun at a theme park, so skip Disney, Legoland, etc.

Lastly, if you really want to impress her, make her something by hand (any woodworking skills?) and write her a heartfelt poem or letter. That shows real thought and effort. Anyone can make plans and buy shit.

Go on a cruise

Mini cruise lines have options where you can drop the kid off in a daycare and or hire someone to watch the kid in your room while you go off and do other stuff with the wife.

Royal Caribbean’s Tots and babies type program in particular is pretty good as they have a lot of stuff that would be age-appropriate for 15-month-old plus their stuff you can do with the kids on the ship as well when you want to all be together.

And then when you want to do stuff with just your wife there are a wide variety of activities so a short little three day five day cruise might be a good option because of all the flexibility you have with built-in quality childcare options .

I need constant phone/internet access because of the volume of cases I have. So cruises are really difficult. I do them once in a while but it takes a lot of planning and is a pain in the ass. The last one I did was 2 years ago for 10 days. It was a blast but took me 2 months to change up work flows so that I wouldn't have stress when I was out of pocket for so long.
