It's by no means a good film and has some glaring flaws (the entire casino subplot) but at least it's trying to be its own film rather than simply an annex to something else.
Rogue One was bland but fine, the Abrams movie was also incredibly uninspired and the Lucas prequels are some of the worst films ever made. In that context, Last Jedi stands out to me. |

Strip away a few layers of shit and there's a movie that does that somewhere inside Last Jedi. There are a few scenes in Last Jedi that felt more like Star Wars (without obviously ripping something off from the originals) to me than anything post RotJ. |
