Acura MDX (and RDX) probably on par with Lexus SUV. Maybe infiniti. AT that point its just personal preference, and I personally think the MDX looks better than the other two.

I wouldn't buy a volvo, lots of my friends had reliability problems with theirs.

My experience: yes, a bunch of American cars + heavily used luxury cars. In Harlem, I remember seeing Range Rovers, Mercedes, BMW, etc.

Look, blacks (and E. Euros and Asians, for that matter) love flashy in all things. Understated luxury is a WASP thing. The whitest car company is probably Volvo or Saab.

i like saab. i got a hand me down 93 convertible at the end if its life in my mid-20s. It was a classy, refined car that could move when it needed to.

I knew a rich kid of the founder of a major supplier for car parts. She and all of her family drive Saabs.

I bet Acura gets the same target demographic as Lexus except it’s people who don’t like Lexus for whatever reason. I think Honda steering is generally tighter and more fun than Toyota, so I would expect that would apply to Acura too, but it wouldn’t seem like the average Acura driver would care. Maybe they don’t like the Honda name?

Don't like the Honda name? The Acura symbol is literally an "H" stretched to look like an "A".

it's still a badge that indicates some level of luxury whereas honda itself does not. it's silly, i agree.

I mean I agree with you that it makes no sense to buy an Acura but clearly other people disagree so I’m trying to speculate

Yeah I think honda/acura is generally a sportier ride and toyota/lexus a squishier ride and a bit more luxe

Idk, it may be a slightly firmer ride but the engine still sucks.

The MDX is actually really fast in the top of the line trim. 0-60 in 5 seconds. You'd have to be insane to consider that not fast.

The new RDX actually looks sexy as hell and is similarly fast.

I'm not convinced that there's a better Mercedes/Audi/BMW worth owning unless you're prepared to spend at least twice as much.

Yeah the RDX and Lexus RX are literally tied in the US News Luxury midsize SUV ranking. I would not have guessed that though I don't really know much about the SUV market.

Interestingly the Audi Q7 is similarly priced to the Jap cars while the BMW X5 is significantly more expensive.

Infiniti and Mercedes lagging.

Will be replacing my wife's 12yr old / 120k mile trouble free RDX w/ 2019 RDX. It's a solid value in terms of all the features they include, good enough performance (she doesn't need a 350HP SQ5) and size wise it's bigger than a compact but not quite up to 3rd row MDX footprint which is unnecessary for us.

nice. Based on this post, I will buy an RDX in about 8 years when it's time to get my wife a new car.

I'll probably buy a 2019 RDX in 5 years when it's time to get myself a "new" car.
