San Diego’s homeless tents have fallen far short of contractual targets to move their clients into permanent housing – and that’s not altogether surprising.

Through the end of May, just 12 percent of homeless clients staying in the three tents in Barrio Logan, East Village and Midway had moved onto permanent housing, far short of the 65 percent goal city leaders set when they approved the tents.

City officials could have predicted struggles before they set those goals.

Now, city leaders are forced to grapple with the results the tents have delivered as they also debate the structures’ future.

Mayor Kevin Faulconer has committed to leave the tents up indefinitely while some City Council members have questioned whether they have been an effective investment.

I was in san diego for a week late last year. Couldn't believe the homeless epidemic there. I went to pacific northwest over labor day and it was barely anything compared to san diego.

Some lunatics in Orange County are trying to convince Irvine to put up these homeless tents

We need to bring back psych wards. Homeless are almost exclusively either schizo/mentally ill or dealing with severe substance abuse issues. Either way they should be forced into medical help. We can't have any nice public spaces in this country because homeless just overrun them.

A lot of them are just drug addicts. California effectively decriminalized what are felony drug offenses in other states. So people come here to do drugs. And "sober living homes" give drug addicts with insurance 6 months of free housing. Then after they get kicked out they just roam around SoCal robbing people and getting high instead of going to prison.

Either way psych wards is the answer. Prisons are crowded enough. Force these people to get sober.

I don't have strong feelings about where they should go. I just think it's absurd that California is letting these degens camp out everywhere all the sudden.

I went to humboldt last year and the entire public park in the middle of town square was just a ton of bums sleeping. In the morning some hippy girls walked around giving out care packages

The 9th circuit is retarded and routinely overruled. They should be appealing that shitty ruling instead of letting thugs in robes turn all of their cities upside down.
