Obama was a national figure by 2004. If Beto wins, his first realistic shot would be 2024, and even that would have to be pushed back if a Dem wins in 2020.

A big part of that was that Obama was sure to win. They only gave him that speaking role after the original Republican in his race dropped out and was replaced by Alan Keyes. Likewise Kamala is already elected. They cant bet on Beto too much yet, but should he win he'll be a national figure on par with Obongo 2004.
