I've heard lots of the same, but honestly, 0 problems with mine except it wasn't charged when I got it.
There are a couple checklists of the common QC fuckups on the Tesla forums, and I had one with me when I went to pick it up. Couldn't find any of the common faults in mine. Guess I got lucky.
Overall, it's like driving a spaceship go-kart. Very happy with the car. Only downside is Tesla navigation is fucking retarded.

i thought they were only delivering the really high-end ones so far. how much did you end up paying?
seems kinda crazy to pay like 60k for a 3-series competitor, but maybe i'm just anchored on car pricing from 10 years ago.
EDIT: just priced one out and it's like 70k delivered for what's effectively a base model. insane.
do you worry that it'll be impractical on any trip over 200 miles?
i hear that they don't even have replacement parts yet, so if you end up messing it up, you won't be able to fix it. true?

It was $55, but I get a $7.5 tax credit, so it's $48 overall. About the same price as a loaded 3-series.
I've already taken it on a 400-mi road trip. 0 problems. Planning a 500-mi road trip in a couple weeks. Superchargers are totally legit.
If the car gets wrecked or breaks, I'm totally fucked for the next couple months.

You get 2 weeks to test autopilot with purchase, and can buy it later. All cars come equipped with the hardware -- you pay for a software unlock.
Honestly, the autopilot is somewhat terrifying. There is an insane amount of road construction going on in my little part of Texas, and it's not 100% reliable in construction zones.
For the economics, there is nothing better than a low milage, used Lexus/Acura for $25k. This purchase wasn't about getting the most bang for my buck.

1) Compare to prior cars you've had.
2) How worried are you that Tesla will go belly up and you'll be left with a product with no support?

1. Previous car was Lexus GS. This car is substantially faster, smoother, quieter, and better looking. GS had slightly more cabin room and was built like a tank. Overall, Model 3 >>> GS.
2. Not super worried. Tesla's bankruptcy would likely be a Ch 11, not a 7. As long as replacement parts are being made, third parties will likely be able to service the car.
Lack of support is probably my top concern, tho.

Jump seats are in Model S:
https://www.teslarati.com/how-to-cool-tesla-model-s-3rd-row-jump-seats/
I really kinda wish I had those, because they use a 6-point seatbelt that obviates the need for child's car seats.
Model S gets free supercharger usage, Model 3 pays $0.10/KW.
Model S has powered trunks, Model 3 are manual open/close.
Model S has a dashboard, Model 3 does not.
