i've probably never had a non-frankenstein vegetable if i had to guess, so i wondered if any of you do this. |
Date: September 22nd, 2018 5:29 PM Author: Cobalt Fanboi Stage I have grown heirloom plants from seed (corn and tomatoes). Generally they don't do nearly as well as hybrids. Hybrids are GMO the old fashioned way: cross breeding. Have given up on heirloom varieties aside from the occasional experiment. Have never seen a GMO seed or plant for a vegetable garden other than hybrids - don't think they exist or are sold. One disadvantage of hybrids is that seeds from them beyond the first generation have a low germination rate and plants revert back to the breeding stock, so it is hard to keep going indefinitely in apocalypse mode.
