There seems to be a struggle in man between competing conceptions of beauty.

You can find the first kind of beauty in the stillness of nature, in landscapes, in serenity and order, in simplicity, lightness, and freedom upwards, in exhilaration and frictionless motion in air. In practice this implies a humanism, man-centric order, progress, might, and strict directives.

You can find the second kind of beauty in the experience of personhood, in contemplation, in uncertainty and faith, in infinity, weightiness and freedom downwards, in peace and limitless movement inwards. In practice this implies a radical understanding, god-centric order, contentment, meekness and creativity.

These conceptions differ fundamentally in their treatment of time; the former finds beauty in the future and in possibility, the latter in the present and in actuality.

They must be similar in some way.
