Numbers for NYC are off. No way you can buy here on just $100k unless you’re looking at the Bronx or Staten Island.

yes but you probably can't buy a 1 bedroom in NYC on that either. Though I'm sure you could buy a 1 or 2 bedroom in a commuter town like Stamford or something. Plus there are absolute horrid cities and towns very close to NYC just north of the Bronx.

west coast suburbs are much more expensive than east coast suburbs, which drives up the average I'm guessing.

1) more densely populated. California metro areas are more densely populated than MOST east coast metros.

2) Smaller inner cities. LA has no downtown almost. SF is a big city but doesn't have as many huge skyscrapers as NYC or other very large metro areas. Displaces more people to burbs.

3) People are less into walking cities on the west coast so suburbs are more appealing.

Those are the main ones I can think of. some east coast metro areas are starting to get outrageous, but won't get to that point for a long time. I could see the Washington, Philly, Raleigh, Boston areas all going up in price over the next 10 years and approaching this cluster fuck.

NYC is already very pricey but insulated to a degree because they do keep building.

Don’t get how these west coast cities don’t get their act together and just build a bunch of high rise apartments. China can do it all day long in their drone cities.

seems off. good luck buying a, "average" home in NoVa or Montgomery County on a 100k salary.

i mean assuming a 10% down payment is a pretty big part of it.
