went to a high-ranked school where majoring in one of the good non-STEM majors (think phil or classics) was more than enough to get your foot in the door for jobs in banking, MBB, or facebook/google type companies.

also i doubt i would have been any good at engineering.

i mean it depends. i can see why you might say rockstar engineers crush it at FANG companies over non-STEM people, but if you wouldn't have liked engineering and weren't gonna be any good at it in the first place it's kind of a moot point.

i know some very smart engineers who would basically go retarded whenever they had to write even a 3 page paper in college. some of those people, i shit you not, actually discuss on their borts how law is SOOOOOOO CR b/c of $200,000+ all in comp starting out, but it's not like they could ever write a motion or a memo b/c their brains just do not function in that scholarly way

Ya it counts. Engineering = hard quantitative shit that allows you to actually built stuff. Physics is hard but doesn't translate to actually creating things as much whereas cs does obviously

at first, i came to this bort bc engineering killed my GPA and i needed to figure out a way to get into LS

during 2L interviews, i got a biglaw job partially bc i interviewed with the IP group (even tho i had no intention of doing IP work)

this led to seven years of on-and-off poasting while i toiled under the hum of fluorescent lights

i staved off several rounds of layoffs by scripting basic stuff/running stat analysis at the law firm and (luckily) getting good results for the client, despite being a 120 lawyer

i thought i was done with the law after seven years but then i moved inhouse to a quant/BD firm, partly bc the GC believed that i was also a quant due to my engineering background

so here i am, continuing to poast as a lolyer

5. Not fucking caring. Engineering wasn't as interesting as physics or math (although still better than biology of any kind), but all of the STEM subjects pale in comparison to my interest in philosophy. And I don't want to do any of the jobs that those majors typically go to anyway, so may as well study something enjoyable in UG before grad school.

They have to follow that PRECISE path though and NOT go to any of the lesser 7000 colleges in the U.S. and NOT get dingfagged.

Connections are all but required too, especially if phenotype is lacking.

Tellingly, one needs to be Elite AF i.e. HYP *and* MBB to trump his liberal arts background. Liberal arts basically puts you on even footing with a high school graduate otherwise.
