Pretending that you can tax people less and somehow collect more in taxes has been GOP mythology for decades. Kansas tried this experiment on a larger scale and bankrupted itself so hard parents had to pay out of pocket for public school for their kids. A bipartisan bill was eventually passed over the governor’s veto to reverse the cuts. We will see the same thing on the national scale, except worse because spending only goes up, never down.

That's a 9% jump, even though the lower income tax withholding schedules went into effect in February.
The CBO says the gain "largely reflects increases in wages and salaries."
For the fiscal year as a whole — which started last October — all federal revenues are up by $31 billion. That's a 1.2% in increase over last year, the CBO says. |
