Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) said Monday that he is considering running for president in 2020.

After winning his third term in last week's midterm elections, Brown told The Columbus Dispatch that he has heard a "sort of a crescendo" of interest in him running.

“We’re hearing it increase, so we’re thinking about it as a result,” he said, while adding that “we’re not close to saying yes.”

He told the Dispatch, "It's been pretty overwhelming."

“My first mission is to encourage people to start talking about (American workers) more, reaching out to people in the industrial Midwest,” he added.

“We’ll see later on about the presidential race. But we are thinking about it for the first time seriously.”

His wife echoed that sentiment, retweeting the Dispatch article.

Brown told MSNBC's "Morning Joe" earlier Monday that a large part of his success in the key swing state came from a focus on workers.

"I respect the dignity of work, and I think that's what Washington forgets about," Brown said, adding that his campaign "was about workers and the direction we need to go."

"Voters will vote for a strong progressive."

Brown contended that that model was a blueprint for running in the Midwest successfully as a Democrat.
