In 2017 GreatSchools began using proprietary ratings called Equity and Academic Progress in addition to test scores to calculate schools' overall ratings. Schools with a small population of disadvantaged students were given an arbitrary Equity rating. The change had the effect of lowering the rating for many highly rated schools and raising ratings for poorly performing schools. The change has been a subject of considerable controversy with parents and teachers.

also, they are incredibly dishonest to not point out any benefits to attending more homogeneous schools. i wonder what happiness surveys would show.

the other problem is that they espouse certain benefits to going to school in a diverse environment, but as usual they fail to clarify how much diversity is necessary to achieve those benefits (the left as a whole does this a lot).

for example, if a school were say 90% white and 10% minority, does that achieve the benefits they are describing, and would there be any additional benefit to being 30% minority? and if there are marginal benefits, do those benefits outweigh any potential drawbacks?

finally, there is more to diversity of course than just race. would the woman who wrote the article say that the students in her school in San Francisco would do better dealing with the world if they had a lot more students from conservative backgrounds? from evangelical christian or rural backgrounds? does that also provide tolerance benefits?

this guy i was in the military with has since turned into a huge shitlib and has pulled his kids out of an almost all-white school and is instead sending them to a "diverse" school because he apparently genuinely thinks that it will be better for them. i wouldn't believe that people are actually tricked by this obvious nonsense if i didn't personally know people like him. it's unreal to me that this propaganda apparently actually works on people, when it's so obviously untrue
