It was brutal. When I was a freshman I challenged a kid who was a senior and got a cheap pin on him the first time. When the second matchcame around he shot in on my leg as soon as the whistle blew and I tore my ACL. |

Only certain weight classes had enough depth that weekly wrestle-offs where needed to determine who would compete that week. I came out for the team my sophomore year. One of the best kids on our team had medaled in the state tourney the year before. He and I had a very intense go at one another in practice one day. The whole team stopped what they were doing and watched us as we fought one another off, each trying to take the other guy down. It was a very long scramble with many near takedowns and last-second switches, but I got the better of him. He soon quit the team and everyone was shocked. We used to travel to different tournaments based exclusively on how big or sweet the trophy/plaque was. This was through like 8th grade, then stopped caring. |

Date: November 20th, 2018 3:38 PM Author: sickened friendly grandma Didn't really matter during regular season as most knew their place. There was an A team and B team for tournaments, and for duals, we would plug and play and move guys around.
If there was a challenge, it was the best two out of three wrestle-off. You can only wrestle off once a month. However, once that starter starts, you cannot ask for a wrestle-off until they lose in competition. For league and post-season we got a real ref to officiate the matches.
To letter, you needed to wrestle 50% of the schedule win 70% of those matches. So we sometimes had two kids at a weight letter. |
