It’s the best timeshare out there if you have kids with a huge secondary market for liquidity.

Why didn't you buy on the secondary market in the first place? (or did you?)

Buying into the "best" time-share is like joining the "best" MLM scheme.

Not on secondary markets. I trade into Marriott Waohai on Kauai and it essentially costs me $1650 for the week. 2Br w/ big kitchen and living room, great pools, private beach. Stop by Costco when we arrive to buy a bunch of things to grill + wine/beer. You can't do that island better or cheaper.

Marriotts are POTUS of timeshares, and even my TTT Palm Desert Blue week trades into any worldwide resort I want on Interval. Bought it for transfer costs (~$500) and runs me $1500/yr.

When you have kids, you can't always stay in an Airbnb or a boutique. Sometimes you want a kid-focused vacation where there are entertainment and amenities geared towards kids.

I would never have done this if I didn't have kids. Only makes sense if you have kids.

I bought 75 points direct from Disney at a new resort at $182 per point. Then I bought 310 points on resale at $100 per point. The reason for doing this is that I get the benefits of being a direct Disney Vacation Club Member but then got the majority of my points from resale so that it was a lot cheaper.

This website lists the best value to buy resale, which I used to decide where to buy from resale:

https://www.dvcresalemarket.com/blog/best-economical-dvc-resort-to-purchase-fall-2018/

So, the Disney resorts in the DVC are in Hawaii,Disneyland in California, Hilton Head, Vero Beach, and about a dozen or so of the resorts at Disneyworld in Orlando.

If you have kids, going to the disney resorts are a huge plus because they have many amenities for kids that aren't available at regular resorts (Disney branded character greetings, disney activities, etc.)I would never have bought into this if I didn't have kids.

I'm taking my 5 year old to the Hawaii Disney Vacation Club resort for New Years. Regular rooms were $600-700 per night. I used my points which equated to about $27 per point. At this rate, I should be able to get my money's worth in about 5-6 years, after which it's just pure profit (other than of course the annual dues).

The reasons why I think Disney Vacation Club is better than all other timeshares:

1. High demand from families and Disney fans. Disney is timeless and if you have a child that's into princesses or other Disney mainstays, you'll know what I mean. I just dont see any competitors to Disney in this space.

2. Active resale market. Very liquid. I bought my secondary market points resale and closed in about a month. Transferred to my name a couple weeks later.

3. Disney exercises its ROFR to establish a floor on values. All this info is published so people know what price they need to stay above to avoid being ROFR'ed by Disney.

4. Disney resorts are inherently expensive. When you try to book at a disney resort directly, it's often 2x more than a regular resort hotel.

5. You can use your points towards cruises, but it's not as good of a conversion ratio. But at least you have the option if you can't fit a disney resort location into your schedule.

of course you got it for a good deal, like $1, since $800/yr maintenance fees alone...just spend $900 for 3 nights anywhere twice a year and you're far far ahead.

Found one for Kissimmee fl that seems close. Starting bid of $1, $909 annual maint fees. Seller paying like $450 closing costs, $150 transfer fee. Seems like prob not a good deal if this guy is willing to lose $599 to get out of it.

When I'm at Waohai it's a lot of proles, but they're millionaire flyover business owners & one guy last time was a MLB player. Brittney Spears, also prole, was staying at the adjacent Hyatt so she was chilling on the beach as well.
