Thoughts on True Detective Season 3?

The first season was so good because the creator spent years working out the story and they had two great lead actors and a great director. Season 2 was rushed and the story wasn't as developed and the supporting pieces weren't there. I am cautiously optimistic about seasons 3 based on what I have read. David Milch (creator of Deadwood) helped the show runner develop the season and wrote at least one episode.
