In the past few weeks, I had 2 particularly interesting conversations regarding Trump and China.
On Thanksgiving Night, I had dinner at an affluent Orange County suburb with my relatives. After stuffing ourselves, I got into a discussion with two husbands of my cousins, and it veered off into politics. One of them works in import-export and manufacturing and has extensive experience dealing with China as well as factory owners in the Rust Belt. Although he did not vote for Trump in 2016, he believes that Trump is right on China and trade as China's egregious cheating and lopsided trade deals are something he witnessed firsthand. He also expressed shock at how devastated the Midwest has become, describing it as the most depressing place he has ever visited. He said, "if I were a working class guy in one of those areas, 100% chance I would have voted for Trump."
The second conversation was with a college friend, one of the smartest people I know, someone whose views I take very seriously even when I disagree. Keep in mind that he is not a Trump supporter and to the best of my knowledge has never voted for a Republican in a presidential election.
In discussing 2020, I was stunned when he said confidently that Trump will win re-election. His reasoning is simple: China. He believes that 2020, unlike 2016, will be a "war" election. Not war in the conventional military sense but a full throttle economic and cultural war against China. He is already seeing rising anti-China sentiments in the U.S., not just from conservative media but liberal outlets as well. He thinks that this escalation will further intensify as Americans come to realize that China is our greatest threat, a country that has caused a lot of their suffering.

cr but china hasn't actually done anything except act exactly as they would be predicted to act. it's like blaming a dog for eating the steak that you left on the floor right next to his food bowl
the real source of the midwest/US middle class's problems are the "united states's" own "elites" who have gone out of their way to sell us out to globalism, of which china is a primary player
sadly it's already getting pretty clear that these "people" are going to be successful in convincing the american public that china is really to blame for their woes, and we will be unsuccessful in removing them from their current positions, where they will continue to operate in a brazenly treasonous manner that is harmful to our country

Not a good prediction. There's no time to create a "cultural war" with China; 99% of Amerikans don't know the first thing about that country, and have no interest in learning it.
And the country is not going to tolerate economic pain in hopes of "winning" an economic battle with China.
More accurate prediction: Business cycle results in inevitable recession by Q3 2019; libs blame Trump; the 3% of independents who decide elections agree with libs; Kamala ==> POTUS
