In these uncertain times, the amount of time and energy needed to practice and improve guitar causes me a great deal of anxiety. I am constantly feeling like I should be using this time instead to do something that will actually help me with my job or help me make money or help me retain my physical or mental capabilities. Does anyone else feel this way?

i felt this way 15 years ago. I got to a pretty decent level of playing, but was never in a band. I then wondered why I was spending time and money just doing this stuff in my bedroom. You have be in a band i think to make it worthwhile and for it to make sense.

I'm with you 100%. The time commitments I've made to work and raising two children leave me very little time for anything at all. I love playing bass, but I never practice and as such I suck at playing it.

I blame it more on this unstable moment in time (that is probably more similar to the majority of humanity's existence rather than the brief respite that was 1942-2007). People can lose their jobs in the blink of an eye and go homeless or paycheck to paycheck. Wouldn't it make more sense during these uncertain times to do something like code on the side or exercise than to learn a useless hobby that will only waste your money.

I do enjoy reading novels and comic books. But these are low cost as I can put them down and restart them whenever I want. Maybe I am just a very anxious GC cog that can't wait to retire.

Learn to code and focus on your job. Use the rest of your free time to do basic exercise, lifting, stretching. Relax. You'll enjoy the money.

This isn’t the stable ‘90s or early 2000s where everyone lived in some cocoon fantasy land. Learning guitar IS a poor use of time. Better to get ready for what’s to come, whatever that may be
