have an old hatch. its fine mechanically, but been driving and visiting clients and getting comments. do not want two cars bc lack of parking.

would like one nicer car that i can take camping and is dog friendly. may want babby with wife. some ground clearance would be nice bc had some problems from driving certain fire roads. also awd for mountains.

i understand most of these cars are ghey

edited. i'm faggot and forgot price. i'm cheap but could stomach like 40k

listen, you're not impressing your clients with a 40k family car. your best hope is them abstaining from having an opinion. i'd just go with something reliable like a 4runner or some type of subaru so they can assume you're an off-roading lesbian.

There is something to be said for confusing your audience or obscuring the issue... this is why 4X4s became a big deal to begin with, or part of the reason. People would rather be perceived as a wannabe Chad ski instructor driving his Jeep into a blizzard than a striver going into debt to convey Betterness with his E-class.

New or used?

At $40k the only thing really striver is a CPO luxury SUV. Audi, Lexus, BMW.

New you can get a JL or 4Runner, but those are not striverish. Nor are any of the wagons (alltrak, subi) or mainstream SUV/crossovers.

I have been looking for a new daily commuter/grocery car. Looked at a hellcat widebody 6MT — did not do it for me. Not sure what I was thinking that I might like it. Same for Camaro and Mustang. Got close to getting a sportwagen 4 motion 5MT (cheap at under $20k new after discounts, but kept looking at golf R and I want to see the new golf next year). Thought about a Tacoma or JL, but I don’t like the lower specs available and the price of a pro or rubicon is pretty insane and it will cost what the pcar does in gas.

Today I got a little overzealous and didn't see the traffic stopped ahead. The BMW's safety features saved my ass (warning, automated braking, etc.).

Also, the steering wheel vibrates when you're changing lanes and there's a car in your spot. How cool is that?

Those sound like Porsche's conservative numbers.

"The base Macan S hits 60 mph from a standstill in 4.9 seconds" - https://www.motortrend.com/cars/porsche/macan/2015/2015-porsche-macan-s-turbo-first-test/

"Activate launch control and the Macan S will bolt to 60 in 4.6 seconds." - https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/a15105462/2015-porsche-macan-s-test-review/

In any case, 5.2 seconds also isn't slow.

If by a few months you mean several years then sure. That is true of any expensive car. Maybe he can even get a 2015-2016 x6 50i for under $40k which is at least the current generation. But without a warrenty it'll be pretty expensive. I've got years of included maintenance and warranty.

2013 was the last real refresh of the GX460.

There is zero difference in appearance between a 2013 and 2019, and the tech hasn't been updated much either.

There is a reason it's 5 years old and listed at 40k. They hold their value because they are rock solid and reliable.

Lexus GX is TCR. Will run forever with minimal maintenance. Only pain in the ass is that the service interval (i.e., oil changes) is every 6 months/5k miles. You also might look at a used Cayenne that you can be sure doesn't have transfer case issues. But the maintenance (especially brakes) is going to be much more. (Oil changes are more expensive, but only every 10k miles or 1x per year.)

Just do a loaded outback or forester.

The upper Trims are really nice and rival a lot of higher end cars I’ve been in. Seats are comfortable, infotainment is apple/android car play. In my overpriced and wealthy neighborhood newer Subaru’s are everywhere.

Plus 2020 outback will be the first significant re-design in 5 years and will be on new global platform which is significantly quieter and a more comfortable ride than previous generations.

The 2019 forester is already on the new platform and getting great reviews.

Suggest 2016-17 Lexus RX 350 CPO for OP. Not a race car, but very comfortable, reasonable off road ability, outstanding long trip car. Wife has 2017 and I actually enjoy driving it (also have A6, 335i and F-150 for reference). Had a 2009 before this one and nothing ever broke.
