I was thinking about this; it's hard to do the "nice" car thing if you don't want to bite the bullet and lose $30 or 50k asap on depreciation like a FOOL. Here are some candidates:

—Land Cruiser

—Anything with a V8 (if muscle cars, V8 sports cars, or even a Tahoe etc count for you). These will probably get rarer with time and the V8s will be more sought after when turbos issues manifest. Like a GT500 will always exist but they might phase out the GT or something like that.

—Maybe an old Lexus if it's not too drug-dealery for you. They depreciate like BMWs basically but have a fraction of the problems.

—Teslas once they're depreciated - they'll have electrical problems of course but there's like 5% the number of moving parts. Basically no chance of lingering mechanical failure means they'll never be $3k beaters as long as battery is servicable.

Muscle car styling ages poorly.

Teslas have poor quality control, and the moving parts argument is VASTLY overstated. Modern engines are very reliable, despite the number of parts they have.

muscle car styling doesn't age at all, the problem is the only 'muscle car' in production is the challenger.

Go look at a 79 charger or a 68 mustang and tell me they've aged poorly.

Every Mustang from 1974-2004 aged very poorly. The pre-facelift S197s are getting pretty stale too TBH

You're trying to tell me fox bodies and new edges used classic muscle car styling? The fox bodies looked like civics and the new edges looked like celicas. Obviously they weren't going to age well.

They've always been muscle cars.

You're just redefining "muscle car styling" to mean 'styling I like' and ignoring several decades where muscle car styling was bad.

If you want to be pedantic 'muscle cars' were only produced between '63 and '74

https://ateupwithmotor.com/terms-technology-definitions/supercar-muscle-car/

So anything since then is either emulating muscle car styling or isn't. foxes and new edges clearly were not.

A reasonably priced pre-2007 Land Cruiser that hasn’t been beat to shit off-road and doesn’t have a million miles can be tough to find. You’ll usually get a better deal if you keep an eye out for a low mileage (~100k mi) LX 470.

10 year old 7 series. Look badass. Can cop for $10K and then will need $15K for repairs. For $25K you can have a car with a new engine that's nicer than anything you could cop new for up to 3X the price

You could sell for $25K right after you put in the new engine but if the point is to drive it for a while, your depreciation is capped at like $20K

The fact that it needs $15k in repairs is just perverse imo... people do entire frame-up restorations of '57 Chevys for that. Also, all of these weird things that you're "repairing," are the replacements any better? Are you just replacing whatever faulty electronic gizmo with something equally crappy?

SUV is not TCR. All cool old SUVs are high priced now because everyone wants an SUV and they weren't as common even 10 years ago.

Best deals are on sedans, and like others have said, I would go for v8 because car companies barely make even v8 suvs anymore and all-but-can't make v8 sedans because of CAFE.
