Not what I am asking. I am asking what people say when they're discussing their pay @ a job. Are they saying ALL IN or are they just saying salary.

I ask because I sense quite a few poasters are including non-base salary numbers when they cite their almost always 200K+ pay

If someone asks me what I make, as the OP is getting at, I would say my "all in" amount. I doubt most people are saying base because they'd prefer to give you a higher number.

RE: 401K, if it's a substantial amount like OP says (20K a year) then I'd include it. Think of it like an additional bonus.

Would never include anything like health insurance benefits.

i don't include 401k or health benefits or reimbursements or seamless dinners or other shit u guys over-inflate.

RSUs/options don't count either. plenty of people at banks got paid 60% in stock and sometimes end up owing money if options vest in-money and expire worthless. Or they get close to nothing after their 3 year stock vests much lower than expected.

u don't touch that money for 35 years, sure it's tax free but if you discount it back it's worth a lot less.

i mean why stop there, why not add seamless dinners? those are free and "part of my pay".

same with free plane tickets. free hotel rooms. conferences.

i only count CASH MONEY PAID IMMEDIATELY, otherwise it's put in the "perks" pile.

u can do what u want but u should then be consistent and add in everything else too.

what are u talking about?

it's apples to apples and consistent with my definition for comp.

a: I get paid monthly cash comp (liquid asset)

b: I have to pay monthly cash (post tax) utilities (liquid cost)

those are comparable.

getting free seamless dinners or matching for retirement 35 years from now is not the same as above a: or b:.

Right but re: b:: you pay LESS utilities because you get them as part of your at work compensation. Heating, electric, AC, internet, water, coffee, you can count all that as comp. I’d even add c:: avoided depreciation on at home seating from using their chairs.
