Did Jet Li have urban appeal in the early 2000s or was that a GC force meme?

Jet Li starred in 4 movies in a row with African American costars in the early 2000s
-Romeo Must Die (with Aaliyah and DMX)
-Cradle 2 the Grave (with DMX again)
-Unleashed (with Morgan Freeman)
-The One (with Delroy Lindo)
Did black audiences love Jet Li or was this just a weird coincidence?

There is strong synergy between korean/asian macho guys, they have a similar warrior culture like ghetto black people do. NYUUG is a good example of this. He's a macho korean who listens to rap music and drives a mustang and chases women, he's basically a black man, and even talks like one.
You can see the same dynamic in The Fast and Furious 2: Tokyo Drift. The movie could easily have taken place in Detroit with a mostly black cast.
