You'd need to carry 30+ pitchers for a full season.

Probably 2 innings max but certainly never face the same hitter twice. You can run that pretty much indefinitely ... guys who throw one inning can go multiple days in a row, guys who throw two innings can get a day off and then be ready to go. No more twink 5th starters getting gaped. You've got super studs every inning of every game

A bunch of teams are doing this now. Chad Green on the yankees for example.

Rays do a version of it. 03 Marlins had Josh Beckett, Dontrelle Willis, and a couple other stud starters

Makes some sense for shit teams with a terrible rotation, but if you've got a couple of elite front-end arms you want them throwing as many innings at a time as you can milk from them.

Aside from the few workhorses who regularly go 7-8 innings, you could have relievers throwing the same number of innings on a weekly/monthly basis as starters, where relievers might come out ahead since there's a big difference for hitters the second time through the order against the vast majority of starters. If you have Kershaw or Scherzer sure maybe different rules apply

Yeah, it introduces way too much variability into the games. You're much better off hoping Mike Fiers or some other decent pitcher has a career game.
