or so?
Like, the entirety of human existence up until about the 20th century or so (and for a lot of the 20th century too) was mind numbingly horrible. Our parents' generation (Baby Boomers) were the first not to get polio. Could you imagine being in an iron lung? Holy shit.
We complain and yet we have it so much better today than anyone has ever had it in the history of the human race. Shut up and smile.

"We complain and yet we have it so much better today than anyone has ever had it in the history of the human race."
Boomers could have said this. We can't because of boomers. HTH

Infectious disease.
In 1900, the top 3 causes of death were infectious diseases—pneumonia and flu, tuberculosis, and gastrointestinal infections (a fourth infectious disease, diphtheria, was the 10th leading cause of death).
The flu pandemic in 1918, for those who lived through it and spoke about it, told harrowing tales.
Now imagine Black Plague Europe. Ghastly.

You think most people had kids just bc "they were horny"?
Are you happy to be here? Don't you feel grateful for all the work everyone did to get you here? Your parents?
Maybe not, but that's a sad prospect.

So the vast majority of people who had children just had kids bc they were horny?
Then why didn't they pull out? Even prior to birth control that had to be at least 80 percent effective.
Your arguing no one wanted children or desired to be parents? Seems extremely strange.

lol the fuck? for the majority of human history people were chilling in forests hunting and shit.
sure we've now solved some problems of previous centuries but overall the industrial revolution and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race

All "progress" has been compounding layers of abstraction that remove us from nature and dull our senses. Ancient humans were connected to nature in a very literal way and their brains worked completely differently.
I just read about this guy who chose to be a hermit in the woods in Maine and lived alone for 27 years:
"Finkel then asked him what he did to occupy his time.
"For a little bit of the time he read some books, did the crossword... but really that did not occupy the majority of his time. What he did was what you and I might call 'nothing'."
If the idea of sitting alone, for half an hour, with nothing to do - think of being stuck, alone, in a lift, while your phone is sitting on your desk - is a little terrifying, then try imagining what it would be like confining yourself to a little clearing in the woods, for days, weeks, months, years…
"When I asked Chris Knight to explain this nothingness, he had some pretty interesting things to say," Finkel says.
"First he was never for a moment, in all 27 years, bored. He was never lonely. He said that he felt almost the opposite of that. He said he felt utterly and intricately connected to everything else in the world. It was difficult for him to tell where his body ended, and the woods began. He said he felt this utter communion with nature and with the outside world."
Now imagine you have this extremely rich inner life, AND tons of socializing with your friends and family.

It wasn't. Literally 100% of humans back then had community, family, friends. They just chilled with each other. They had no concept of smart phones and internet and porn so wtf would they miss it? Likewise why would they feel bad they only lived to 40 or 50 instead to 70 they had no concept of ppl living that long.
All the "modern" inventions of the last 50 years are mostly bullshit that havent really improved life. Humans have never been as unhappy, disconnected and stressed out as they are in the western world today. You go to a third world village and you quite clearly see this, people have way less but they are actually much happier. The West had turned humans into fat fucks, women into trannies, and children into braindead idiots, and now you need to have surgery for the fats, therapy for the trannies, drugs for the kids. Most of "modernity" is dealing with the shit inhumane problems society has created.
The world is flame, humans will regress to basic shit because they dont need a lot of this bullshit

life WAS more cruel and difficult, no question. at the same time, it suited us better. hardship is more 'natural' to us, and it fosters 'community' and other virtues which cannot develop in a vacuum of limitless artificial comfort.
we have overcorrected and made life too soft, feminized, and decadent. the harshness of life was a stabilizing ballast against the decadence and general foolishness you see society now devolving towards.
the solution is not to throw over modernity and 'GO BACK TO THE DARK AGES' a la the Unabomber. it's to preserve, through some combination of cultural rites/customs, an appreciation for the fundamental harshness of life that we have transcended, and an appreciation of our fundamental nature.
we have become too 'denatured' by our artificial comfort and it is leading us far astray from reality (eg, women 'dog moms' raising their dogs as 'children', 'transsexual' 5-year-olds, etc).

This ties into something I saw the other day. Miley Cyrus says she's putting off kids because she can't bring them into a world with climate change.
This is an absurd statement, but it is common. Think of everything that has happened in history, and think of how hard someone in Europe in WWI would've laughed if some millenial said the world was too unbearable for kids because there's a theory it might get 2-3 degrees warmer in 40 years.
But then I realized this is exactly why global warming exists as an issue we hyperfocus on. We don't have a world war or a pandemic, so we need to create one in our minds so that we can think that we are fighting something.
