It's a target date fund. They adjust the mix of stocks and bonds relative to your retirement time horizon. They have them for 2030 and 2040 and 5 year increments for the next 50 years. What part don't you understand?

From my understanding being 100% stocks will outperform in the long run. And if you can stomach the swings is much better (assuming you keep a cushion in cash so you dont have to sell in a downturn). Plus bond returns are such shit right now. And when rates do go up bond prices will get crushed. A mix of bonds only made sense when bonds has similar returns to stocks.

I think this is mathematically true for us equities post great depression. But it assumes an ability to stay the course in the market indefinitely, which does not conform with IRL for most people. You can also get crushed by inflation or deflation as well as the fed increasingly manipulating the fuck out of the market. IMO most people are better off with a mix.

These Target date funds go too low in equities at the end but they are great up until then.

I would definitely consult the crowd on reddit, most of them are not professional investors but large crowds know best, or better yet, find a chat room that's populated by and large with individuals who are allegedly involved with some other profession besides investing, and ask them, because they won't have any biases from working full time as investors, and that should enable them to give more honest advice.

Just diversify. If you go broad enough youll be fine. As long as the global ecomony keeps growing, which it always will, your wealth will grow. Sure there will be recessions and downturns but just dont panic sell and it eill be fine. The only sure losing bet in the long run is not investing. Im in cash, real estate, vtsax, and vtiax. Thats it. But im very well diversified.
