I rented a house in Cupertino for my kids when they were in college. It was a 1500 sq ft. tract house poorly built in the 1960's. Today houses like that are $2M if you can find one for sale. Ditto for San Jose, though it has some bad areas where you might find a slummy cheaper place. I have lived in both the Bay area and Boston. If you're inhouse or a regular corpmo you'd be making more than virtually every field aside from biglaw and IB/mutual funds. And you'd actually be able to afford a nice house 45-60 mins from work, with a workplace culture that's generally more family friendly than SF. Moreover plenty of companies (biotech and tech usually) are in Waltham/Newton/Cambridge which cuts commute and COL further. |
