That’s not to say there isn’t still great content and good brothers to be found in between the static. But the deterioration is there and it’s a bit sad. I say that as someone who loves this place and is pretty agnostic about content type. There’s been an obvious narrowing in the content focus; it was much more cosmopolitan a couple years ago. Several notable good to great poasters have either left of their own accord or been chased away; others have significantly decreased their frequency of participation, for whatever reasons. Pumos are quieter. Quotemos, less hilariously, innocuously vicious. Where is everybody at? The closing of registration hasn’t helped the situation, since it doesn’t allow a new cohort to step up sufficiently to replace the exiters (though the carte blanche opening a few years ago was one of the precipitating factors for the current situation; needs to be a balance). The culture seems to be decaying; the place feels like a plant that needs to be watered and hasn’t been for a long time, since its caretaker is still “out for a pack of smokes.”
Me, I’m a simple woodsman from West Virginia trying to keep things afloat at home, steady hands at the manufacturing plant, bent knee weekly at Church, my soul humbled before the godhead. So, I still like to poast and I think there’s meaning in the poast and in the commune of brothers and so I’ll poast. I think the bort has the potential for greatness; its structure *is* special and unique. But the people are going missing. And dd tp has a point: the meme of “xo is the smartest bastion on the internet” sounds outdated; it emerged in a different time and open question whether that claim really has any glim on it anymore or is just a holdover from a far gone era.
Controversial elevator pitch solution: Rach, assuming he’s still alive, needs to clean house and then selectively reopen registration, quickly. And engage in outreach to former poasters who might be tricked into coming back, the drug dealer to the former junkies.
