Jared Golden (D-Maine), a freshman, followed through on his promise to vote yes for the impeachment article accusing Trump of abusing his power — but not the second, which alleges that Trump obstructed Congress. Public support for removing Nixon was lower than current support for removing Trump up until the last two weeks before he resigned, when it spiked from the 40s to 57%.
A bad day of Bolton testimony (or Mulvaney testimony or Rick Perry testimony) could move public sentiment to the levels they were at when Nixon resigned, and its already far more than just Dems supporting impeachment and removal given that the country is essentially 50/50 for v. against right now.

I'm sure every one of them paid attention to how the House conducted its impeachment investigation. You could say the exact opposite to the Dems in the House investigation - without all the facts why are Dem House members (but not all) committed to impeaching Donald? The only answer is partisanship. It's not a stretch to say that the Dems have been wanting to impeach Trump since the day he was sworn into office (literally, read the Wapo article from swearing in day, comments by Dems within months about impeaching him, comments from a substantial number of Dem house members running for 2018 midterms promising to impeach Trump, etc.
2. They realize that this is also a ploy to play into the 2020 election. Going from my point #1, they realize that it shouldn't be allowed to play out for a long time so as to coincide with the election in any way. Basically its a matter of not subjecting the american people to this BS for any longer.
3. They don't think that Bolton/Parnas/Biden etc would add any facts that would affect their decision. |

It would be a big deal for a GOP senator to vote removal, as removal would probably be devastating for the GOP. Same went for dems re: Clinton in the 90's. Voters didn't vote GOP senators into office to destroy the GOP.
You also have to understand that it is not an unreasonable position to take to believe that what Trump is accused of doing is not an offense that warrants impeachment. I don't think it warrant impeachment, and I didn't think what Clinton did warranted impeachment in the 90's. It's a drastic action to remove a president. |
