By spend, I mean spending outside of mortgage/rent, childcare, taxes, etc

Basically food, transportation and amusement (booze, travel, etc), car/taxi

Is it possible to get spend below $3,000 a month?

My average spend last time I looked was $5300/month. About $2600 of that is mortgage/property taxes/homeowners ins. Could easily cut more but I buy semi-big ticket things I don't "need" sort of regularly. Even after 401k etc, I'm spending less than half my take-home so it's fine.

I moved back in with my parents a while ago. I spend $150 a month on "rent," about $300 on food, maybe $500 on random purchases, and about $2000 on stocks/ETFs. whatever's left over accumulates in my checking account until that hits $3000, then I put another $1500 in stocks.

Family of four, we probably average around $3k per month on that stuff. And we spend about $3k on child care, housing, health care and other necessities and invest around $3k per month. HHI is a little under $140k and that's a little over $9k after taxes per month.

$250 for food

$40 gym

$50-150 for going out/misc recreation or eating out

$120-130 for daily commute to work

$0-40 ubers

$50 for misc, but high variance (this month this figure was $200 since i bought a lifting belt and new lifting shoes, last month it was 110 for a new book shelf and new order fish oil pills i had to buy, for the numerous months before it was 0)

generally varies but roughly this.
