The Chinese were already avidly pursuing bioweapons. Now that the world has seen this virus bring us to our knees, it makes biowarfare inevitable. I have read that the Chinks are working on bioweapons that only target Caucasians. We better be researching bug killers.

The most likely scenario is an enemy country releasing a bioweapon through a proxy group to maintain deniability. The cost and ease of creating a custom virus will go down substantially over time. It could even be an independent terrorist group releasing a virus.

This all feels like the start of a really ugly chapter in history.

https://www.defenseone.com/ideas/2019/08/chinas-military-pursuing-biotech/159167/

It will be increasingly important to keep tabs on the Chinese military’s interest in biology as an emerging domain of warfare, guided by strategists who talk about potential “genetic weapons” and the possibility of a “bloodless victor

On the other hand, should be much easier to make one that targets a more homogeneous population like them.

Yeah, they are playing with fire. Their military seems insanely overconfident and are going to fuck up by being too aggressive. They have had senior generals openly talk about how sinking one of our aircraft carriers would cause us to just quit immediately. When anyone who knows our history would realize it would result in an insane overreaction.

Similar to how school shootings didn’t really become a thing until Columbine, the virus has opened the eyes of our enemies too real possibilities.

What happens when oil is essentially worthless because we transitioned to renewables? You are going to have a lot of countries in the Middle East with angry populations blaming the West for their problems. A terror attack Is likely.

It sounds like they were more interested in discovering what made the bats immune. I doubt it would ever be used intentionally as a bioweapon without both a reliable vaccine and cure for symptoms.

You can't make a reliable vaccine for an RNA virus. Within a year it's very likely to mutate into a form that renders the vaccine useless. That's why you have to get a flu shot every year.

you get a flu shot every year because there are dozens of "flu" strains, and the vaccine manufacturers try to guess which strain will be most common the coming season, they're not manufacturing new vaccines for every flu mutation

where do you think many strains come from, dummy?

"Like many RNA genome viruses, influenza virus undergoes high mutation rates and frequent genetic reassortment (combination and rearrangement of genetic material) leading to variability in HA and NA antigens. Minor changes in the protein structure in influenza A strains ("antigenic drift") occur frequently, enabling the virus to cause repetitive influenza outbreaks by evading immune recognition."

how can fucking idiots like you be so sure of themselves when they are so fucking wrong?

"Antigenic drift is the main reason why people can get the flu more than one time, and it’s also a primary reason why the flu vaccine composition must be reviewed and updated each year (as needed) to keep up with evolving influenza viruses."

Weaponized anthrax is far superior. It's really a perfect weapon. Just kills the people where you want them dead and no messy transmission shit. There is even a set time when coast is clear to move in. The delivery is the tricky part. The sarin gas subway Japs tried dropping anthrax from a sky scrapper and it just flopped to the ground.

Risk of blowback from an infectious disease is a nonstarter. Now this little beauty...

Why Would Anthrax Be Used as a Weapon?

If a bioterrorist attack were to happen, Bacillus anthracis, the bacteria that causes anthrax, would be one of the biological agents most likely to be used. Biological agents are germs that can sicken or kill people, livestock, or crops. Anthrax is one of the most likely agents to be used because:

Anthrax spores are easily found in nature, can be produced in a lab, and can last for a long time in the environment.

Anthrax makes a good weapon because it can be released quietly and without anyone knowing. The microscopic spores could be put into powders, sprays, food, and water. Because they are so small, you may not be able to see, smell, or taste them.

Anthrax has been used as a weapon before.

https://www.cdc.gov/anthrax/bioterrorism/threat.html

You have 48 hours to begin countermeasures. After that it's lights out.
