1) NYC starting to resemble something like a peak

2) Italy/Spain already starting to talk about how to reopen economies

3) Austria reopening partially this week

This all suggests the US will start to move towards reopening in May

I dont doubt that. The point is there is a peak - the most hysterical alarmists suggested there wouldn’t be. If Spain and Italy (which got rekt) can start working towards reopening by late April, that’s a huge positive

They will see another spike in infections and deaths when they fully reopen and so will the US. People should prepare for months of social distancing imo. The economy is fucked until there is a vaccine widely available. Even then, there will be residual trauma and fear of large gatherings. I think there will be a much smaller market for travel and leisure, movie theaters, live sports, live music, etc.

True - but they should better be able to handle it with surge hospital capacity, etc. Also, more people should be wearing masks globally when things reopen.

It will be weird for leisure and such for a year, but it won’t be zero

the spanish flu crash bottomed a few weeks into the outbreak and that pandemic lasted like two years. people who think this shit is going to lead to the great depression 2.0 are just panicking and using whatever stats they can point to to justify their prole financial behavior.

Defense contracts and market structure. Airbus as it stands cant start working on new orders until 2026. And over the past few years Boeing has becoming more of a defense contractor competing with Lockheed Martin and Raytheon/UTC. Those revenues are locked in (Pentagon is a great customer) and probably high margin

The market trades up or down based primarily on Trump's daily pressers.

Good information by Trump = market goes up

Bad information by Trump = market goes down

i plan to make low-conviction bets on a slow grind down (iron condors w/very low leverage)

we are probably getting better from a medical perspective but getting the economy back up and running in the near-term is going to be a slog

we'll have rapid advancements in testing / treatment but that will take a while to ramp up and meanwhile the cat-mouse containment measures will dampen recovery

our response to the bat flu is like giving half doses to a cancer patient randomly . . . i don't really anticipate the patient doing wind sprints any time soon

true, and that's why i always have a chunk in the market

i use a lot of leverage when i go long, so i have to be extra careful about risk management when entering the market

Trump's bullshit fake pump of the oil markets late last week by lying about a RUS-SA oil deal is going to come back to bite him this week. This OPEC meeting Monday is going to be a nothingburger and oil is going to crash back down and bring the market with it.

That said this market is absolutely retarded and rallies on historically bad economic numbers so it's really just gambling at this point.
