No harm no foul but if he grandstands though and doesn’t budge when hard data becomes available about efficacy it makes me wonder to what degree the Gates foundation is involved in exploiting medical emergencies to dictate policy by proxy. Or he’s just inflexible and can’t deal with new data being effective (a lot of old people can’t move past one thing once it gets in their heads - usually the first intention they have)

This is very problematic, for a few reasons: First, that the drug is not proven to work at this time. Second, the President always speaks with a certain authority and information coming from the president is information normal people could act on. Three, in light of one and two, people may hoard the drug and deprive people who need it access to it. Fourth, acting on the information from the president people may take a drug which has dangerous side effects, the efficacy of which they do not currently know.
If eventually, next week, next month, or next year the drug is proven to work it will not change any of the above. This will still have been terribly irresponsible and it will still have flown in the face of critical thought and deference to the scientific method. Being incidentally correct is not something to take pride in. |

If you have casually grinning CDC career bureaucrats seemingly taking delight in ripping your civil rights and livelihood away without some sort of light at the end of the tunnel it’s pretty easy to fall into despair and do crazy shit. |
