There is no PIP in California, brother. When I do get an out of state policy that has PIP, I just get it in addition to the third-party recovery. It's basically free money.

I figured some people could buy PIP policies even in CA. Thanks. My state is PIP opt out, meaning it’s on your policy unless you expressly opt out in writing. So I think many people end up with it unknowingly. Any third party carrier is going to deduct whatever the PIP policy limit is on the injured’s coverage when negotiating, so it ends ip reducing the settlement amount.

This is not how it works in CA. PIP is free money here if it is available from an out of state policy, and it doesn't reduce third-party responsibility (it is considered collateral source).

PIP is designed to keep lawyers away from low dollar soft tissue cases, so that surprises me. It’s no fault coverage paid by the injured party’s policy, so I’m not sure how you would be entitled to a cut of that. 180 of true.
