This is an easy question. I have hundreds of files and they take an extraordinary amount of time to handle. Moreover, my biggest skill is in bringing in new files.
Some of these big cases can have dozens of depositions, weeks of trial, dozens of hours of discovery, and significant planning. It would take several people in my office just to work on one or two of these big cases.
I have a case right now I'm co-counseling with a big firm that has over 60 experts (20 of them designated experts). They take and defend every single deposition. On top of that they are paying 100% of the costs, which is at the moment over $200,000. Finally, there is no way that I could get at trial the same dollar amount as someone like Nick Rowley. He is just the best at what he does. So I still will likely make more money sending it to him than if I were to do it my self.
So basically, my firm is VERY good at getting max value on small, mid-size, and large cases. We try a lot of cases every year. Since we farm through hundreds of cases per year, we are able to get a few monsters every year that we outsource to the best trial attorneys in the country. Then we get nice pops every so often. Seems like it makes the most economic sense. It is also best for the client too since we make sure their recovery is always the max.

This is a dumb question with an obvious answer: to make more money.
Some firms outsource cases to us to litigate too
