But they will go up as the virus spreads from all those spry 30 year olds to older and more vulnerable populations. Deaths per capita will never be as bad as they were before, but the absolute number of deaths and long term complications are catastrophic. And economically of course it's a disaster, there is no way for anything remotely like normal life to resume. Tourism, business travel, working from an office, etc. None of that is possible right now nor will it be for the next year without a miracle. Thanks, Trump! Are we trying to flatten the curve until we reach herd immunity? This seems reasonable - and viewed through this lens a spike among the most young / active / healthy members of society without corresponding increase in deaths is about the best thing possible if we're trying to flatten the curve until reaching herd immunity (which can be reached with prevalence rates as low as 20-30%...) |
