The issue with that approach is that there are plenty of poasters who aren't here any longer to opt out. Maybe as a middle road solution you could at least make the default "restored" and then allow an "opt in" feature that randomizes. Maybe. I love this place and think it's one of the great experiments in digital culture. The perfect solution is probably something like implementing a feature where, for any given account, you can go in and see *all* the threads you've created and *all* the threads you've poasted in--essentially making the "by you" and "poasted in" features permanent across the full archive rather than on a rolling cycle. That would give people the theoretical ability to clear as much of their content as they'd like if they're possessed by that crazy idea, but not outright encourage it and so by default conservatively preserve everything that's been done here. Rach could never then be accused of not giving people the tools to cleanse the record but at the same time he'd be preserving the bulk of the site content over time.
