Add on a half fifth or bottle of wine some nights when work slows and I feel I can cut loose. Had 2 years sober before. Have gotten fat in this relapse. Miss feeling good. Always feel sick and gross now. I’m drunk on work calls and I’m sure ppl know I’m being weird though haven’t done anything crazy/haven’t dropped any deadlines.
Copped Ativan so I could self detox and thought I cracked the code but just drank after 3 days sober. Going to give it another run tmw but this is kinda bad bro’s. Hate this shit |

Also when I was hospitalized last time doc said my liver was A+ no problems. Some very minor shit with my kidneys (I don’t remember) but wasn’t a big deal |

I'd take a LOA from work and try to get into a 28 day residential rehab. I was just in one last March because of a relapse. If that isn't an option, take next week off from work and go to a 5 day detox clinic.
The bright side is that you've proven to yourself you can do this and remain sober. You know how life can be, drinking just isn't worth it for guys like us. Best of luck to you friend |

Today was actually a pretty good day but didn’t kick the habit yet. Woke up at 9, had 4 beers + .5mg Ativan and went back to sleep til noon. Woke up and went for 5 mile run (haven’t been running for ~a month). Came back and had 4 white claws. Went on a date that was awful (she was weird as f and also called me out on a white lie she couldn’t let go of) then came back and now I’m 9 claws deep. Have about 6 more that I’ll probably finish tn. Had a 4 calls with friends this morning/post date that made me feel good. Will try not to drink tmw. |

Like many, alcohol had always been in my life (which is sort of the default thing for Americans unless you are from a teetotaler household or Mormon/Muslim household etc) so I grew to accept that as a constant thing I didn't think it could be a source of any problems because of the fact that it was an immutable constant.
As I got older my drinking progressed. I had no problems drinking occasionally in high school as a junior and senior - and even in college I didn't have a big issue either. I was succeeding academically, my health was great and I had a lot of friends.
However I believe in junior/senior year of college I hit a rough patch emotionally (got betrayed by a friend in business) and started drinking more and more as a crutch/to deal with the stress of being burnt out and being insecure about my future and feeling like I was being pushed into going to Law School without any other choices.
The first moment of clarity came when a friend of mine who is still addicted to alcohol/heroin/other drugs etc came to my house and we went on a huge binge and the day after he said "man, this hangover sucks - I wonder life would be like if I had no vices" - for some strange reason that simple sentence changed my life. I had never even thought about what it would be like to not have to struggle with alcohol dependence before that.
There was probably about a one month period where I went on a huge drinking binge. I'm talking like 8 drinks a day minimum but more like 16-24 drinks a day (3 bottles of wine at the peak) - where I put my life at risk and realized "holy shit - I have a problem with booze and I gotta stop or this shit's gonna kill me one way or another"
After I came out of that horrible 1 month binge, I decided that I would try and quit drinking if possible. However I didn't have any illusions and I knew it was gonna be hard so I tapered down (which is what I suggested to you) - I went from 3 bottles of wine a day to 2 to 1 to half of one (watering the wine down too to trick myself) to a six pack of beer to eventually quitting cold turkey. This is classic bargaining behavior with the addiction, but its important to do it because it allows you to take your drinking back to a manageable level and it also (more importantly) allows you to keep drinking while acknowledging that you have a problem. Being able to make incremental progress helps you build the confidence to fully quit.
I was able to eventually quit the first time for several months but unfortunately the mistakes that I made while I was drinking still caught up with me (i.e I had committed to going to another city for LS, but when I sobered up I realized that this was definitely not what I wanted to do) - and eventually pulled me into a relapse.
However after that first relapse I learned it could be possible to be sober AND that I was capable of a lot more as a sober individual. Capable of achieving and succeeding at things I never thought possible.
I came back to drinking and went probably a couple years after that drinking intermittently and knowing that I needed to be sober, but I never went for it until I went in for a checkup and my doctor told me I was primed for a heart attack or a stroke by my mid thirties and that I was developing precancerous oral lesions due to a combination of smoking and drinking. Both of those things scared the shit out of me - so I ended up putting the cigs down and then soon after that quit booze.
I'll occasionally relapse on cigs, but I've been sober now over 5 years and I do not miss it at all man. My life literally did a 180 as a sober person and I am honestly shocked at how much I was able to accomplish - with none of this being possible if I had kept drinking.
