Look into the details around this, Lenovo has played games with putting in Nvidia GPUs then fiddling with how fast they actually run. I know this was the case back when I owned a 480 and compared it to the 480S. Also, with heat/throttling, at times their i7's are slower than the i5's.

I bought an refurbished HP ProBook a while ago. I guess this is basically the same concept as a thinkpad but from a different brand. anyway it's pretty 180 apart from the shit screen and tiny trackpad. anyway I paid $500 for this and I was considering paying like $2000 for a MacBook. considering I'm getting similar performance this feels like a win.

It looks 180. AMD knocked Renoir out of the park. However, reviews ALL say that the fans are extremely loud, even the tuned down models on “silent” setting run at 40-50dBs from what I’ve read. Not something I can take to a meeting.

i have a two monitor setup at home and the office so i don't really use the laptop as a laptop unless I'm traveling which hasn't happened since i got it. i detach the tablet, flip it upside down and reattach it back and use it take note on calls or markup presentations. if you don't use the tablet, the surface laptop looks amazing.

If you want to use high-res monitors and/or play games at home, I'd get something with TB3 and get an eGPU (Razer Core X Chroma).

If you want to review documents on a tablet and don't want to use an iPad, get the Surface Book.

The X1 Extreme (still very light) gives you two accessible SSD drive bays and memory slots for easy upgrades.

Carbon should be fine, since you don't really need the extra dGPU anyway.

I went with a Lenovo T15. I was in and out, taxes, shipping + a MSFT 365 license for about $800. I'd highly recommend just going this route.

If you truly need an indestructible laptop and want all the upgrades as some kind of status symbol, then by all means go ahead.

But T15 is a great trackpad laptop with a billion times more functionality than an iPhone and it's cheaper.
