problem for taiwan is that its airforce is F16/Mirage 2000 based which have very limited combat radius/loiter time especially on full load. they are very good fighter aircraft to defend your own air space and will kick ass if china aerially intrudes into taiwan but they cant offensively fight against against a ring of air craft carried deployed a few hundred miles away enforcing a blockade
taiwan needs to go all in on F35 for air superiority and Rafale or F15E for long range strike and blow $40B or so on aircraft, AWACS, air refuellers and top notch radar/air defense system. this will get them around 100 F35 and 60 Rafales/F15Es. then spend another $10B on 8 top notch AIP submarines. now this air force and submarine force can beat back a blockade and should basically buy them at least a decade or more of independence. |

Its going to be another decade before they have the carriers to try this.
Taiwan doesn't need air refueling because they are playing defense. Their problem is that China's missiles will knock all of their aircraft and runways out in the opening days of the conflict.
Taiwan's best hope is stopping them on the beach and then guerilla warfare while the world develops a response. |
