open to car or SUV

new or used

would like something "cool" that's fun, but don't worship luxury brands. I'm open to a cool Ford as much as a cool Audi or MB

current car is a Lexus IS 300, which has served me well

Just make sure it has a HUD. I have come to really love HUDs in cars. Helps guarantee you dont cruise through a stop sign like a retard if nothing else.

The ones that directly link into your visual cortex are (e.g., on the new S Class); the ones that are simply system-based aren't much more than gimmicks.

No they don't. They just project an image with shit like speed limit and directions into your auto glass. You're thinking of self-driving and automated safety features.

The good HUDs tell you where the stop signs are too, bro. That's integrated in the navigation. They put a little red stop sign up on the HUD when you get close to a stop sign.

If you want to have the fun of your life as a single guy, buy this:

https://www.porsche.com/usa/models/718/718-cayman-models/718-cayman/

You'll never regret it and you'll have the best goddamn time for the next few years before you get married and end up driving around town in a fucking 3-row luxury SUV full of dashed dreams & Home Depot pozz loads.

Keep in mind, you're not going to be able to haul shit in this and it's going to solely have room for you and some girl you meet at a bar and start finger-banging on your way back to your condo. You won't care. You'll smile every time you take a corner or accelerate onto the highway. You'll eventually move on but you'll never be able to shake the memory of a car with such precise handling, dynamically balanced chassis, wonderful on tap acceleration, perfect feedback from the road. You'll dream about it as you sit at stoplights in your next-gen Lincoln Aviator five years from now.

If you're willing to buy used you have a ton of options in that price range. You have to nail down what you actually want. Do you want electric or ICE? Do you want an SUV or a sports car or sedan? You could get a new Corvette, or several different Teslas, or the new Ford Mach E or a used luxury car or SUV.
