Including myself. People probably eat the equivalent of 1-2+ meals of food a day more than they need. Then they’re sedentary all day on top of that. Over time you become accustomed to this level of calorie intake and it becomes virtually impossible to lose weight.

Yep

What I don't get is why people are fatter than they were 20 years ago. More sedentary because of phones? Obvi processed food and seed oils are garbage but that isn't any worse than 20 years ago, if anything it's better

it's interesting because i feel like fitness related popularity is at a high.

i guess we've become polarized; some people are working out and getting in great shape and everybody else is blowing up.

Exactly. I can't figure it out. Normies being into fitness and healthy eating are at all time highs as far as I can tell, but maybe that's just in my bubble, and you're right that the fat half of the country is just way more fat than they were 20 years ago (and they'll keep getting fatter)

You're vastly overselling that. Those studies except out violence or disease to show potential longevity but both of those are estimated to have been the leading causes of mortality of hunger gathers.

Twist: we're all partially right some of the time. A fuckton of hunter gathers died between the ages 15 and 45 (roughly 46% of those that made it to 15), which was my glib point about dying in the dirt at 35. That stat is from the same study that everyone quotes for hunter gathers lived to 70 number.
