Based on the medium it should be on par with capeshit. But it is much much better than any capeshit, or any anime I've seen. Based on internet fora, he draws a lot of fire from midwits for his more obvious mis-steps which is fine because in order for Art to be Good, we must Criticise it (this is part of what drives my passion for Curation).
MGS1 is probably the most dated since it talks about nukes, but nobody really talks about nukes and they're a big deal imho. But if a nuke were to go off, and you had a look at fiction from the last 30 years, you'd basically have MGS and The Sum of All Fears and nothing else, so MGS would stand out for its prescience on such a salient concern imho. It also discusses the nature of Genotype and Phenotype which are always highly salient and are the foundation of Clique Law.
MGS2's ending was completely insane but he perfectly encapsulated the archetype of the modern digital era w/r/t information dissemination. It seemed like total bullshit at the time that you just accepted in order for the game's plot to make sense. But today it's become apparent that he somehow foresaw how the media/facebook would operate, particularly with regard to the orange man.
MGS3 elucidated that we are all pawns of the times in which we live, which of course we are. We have no intellectual freedom and have to pretend that Women are equal and that globalisation is Good or we'll get a bad reputation irl.
MGS4 is about AIs run amok and creating a world without ideology, principles, or ideals where War is the primary economic engine. This will probably happen irl somehow. I mean AI is the meme so we'll see what unfolds.

I’m gonna go with yes.
Especially if he was instrumental in the gameplay as well. I imagine the graphics were another team
But the stories are really good, the characters range from absurd to awesome to insane.
He’s up there in terms of genius.

Overall, played contemporaneously with release:
MGS > MGS3 > MGS2 > MGS5 > Death Stranding > MGS4 > Peace Shit > Lol
MGS1 has the best story and characterisation and creates the foundation for everything that follows. There is a legitimate sense of tension as it continually tops itself. It's the gaming equivalent to your favourite page-turner novel. It gets better as you go - for some of the others, that's questionable at best (e.g. Ground Zeroes/Tanker vs. what follows, MGS4 also). It's a stealth game that becomes a boss rush that becomes an epic anime military thriller. If it were any one of those things to an extreme, it would be another POS PS1 game. But it never overstays its welcome in any regard, so it's like the tightest 10 hours in gaming. Kojima has always built in twists and MGS1 has the best of them imho.
MGS3 is practically a remake and to claim that it's "better" means that the claimant has a 105 IQ max. You really can run through all of MGS3 like it's nbd. Basically everything is derivative from MGS1, it follows the formula very closely. Still, it feels like they actually finished the game so it comes together very well imho. I've always said that the twist at the end that makes everyone love the ending wasn't even a twist, it was clearly delineated at the beginning of the mission with only some room for interpretation, but "gamers" are retarded. Would've been better if Snake refused to shake Johnson's hand imho.
MGS2 is prescient/brilliant, and certain aspects of the gameplay are 180, but Kojima overplayed his hand or became too self indulgent or just sort of ran out of time with.....like, the entire Plant chaper. With that said, it was more impressive in 2001 than MGS3 was when it was released, but that's mainly due to the tanker chapter.
MGS4 is shit overall - way too many thematic elements cobbled together, plus bringing back every single character and resolving each of their threads, plus Snake being old. They also felt the need for characters to exhibit their worst qualities - Otacon falling in love for no reason and crying, Naomi being sketchy af, Colonel banging Rose like it's nbd, Rose being sketchy af, the list goes on. Also as weird as the plot is in the other games, the logic is internally consistent. MGS4 makes no real sense as a whole, i.e. there's no reason for anything that came before if Liquid and/or Ocelot ultimately wanted to do what they did in MGS4. With that said, it was still Cool how they worked in (the critical need for) Big Boss's DNA into the plot. The very beginning is cool, Big Boss's return is cool in a way (even if it underscores the fact that the game is ridiculous/plot is bad).
MGS5 is literally a stealth game - it's very good, beats the shit out of almost the entire PS4/XBOX library. But, it's literally a stealth game with a few damage-sponge bosses mixed in. It doesn't follow the actual formula that the rest do. As an MGS game it's a letdown but as a literal game it's most definitely the best.
Ground Zeroes was a great intro, Big Boss sneaking onto American soil and killing Marines was a pivotal moment for his character imo. Until then they were just pussying out, with Miller building the entire empire on his own while Snake stood by and grunted in peace walker iirc.
I feel toward Death Stranding the same way that Gamecube apologists feel towards fake overhyped exclusives like RE4 or shit like Metroid Prime. I feel like I can't assess the game since it basically bombed, it's like I'm doing that thing where Losers laud things that are unpopular because they remind them of themselves. But, anyway, the gameplay is solidly addictive for some reason, enemies are scary as hell. As an overall experience I think it nearly edges out MGS5 because of how badass the BTs can be, plus the story is more accessible (though still opaque). My Woman saw Death Stranding and likes it a lot for some reason, that has to count for something.

MGS 2 + 3 are philosophical art pieces imo
Never beat any of the others
The chick who makes the soundtracks for Castlevania games is a legit genius
