Btw how did you ace FAGOTMAN job interviews if you really aren't a Nerd? Maybe you aren't giving yourself enough credit. Buddy of mine is a Nerd and always bombs them, has to work random places for like 11 months/$120 an hr before getting laid off or contract expiring. He has flown to Sunnyvale multiple times and just Bombs the interview, but he's definitely a Nerd.

The "software engineer" roles do not. They will pretty much interview anyone with dev experience or a CS degree. The interview is difficult and designed to reduce false positives (hiring someone who will not add value) at the cost of generating a lot of false negatives (rejecting someone who would've added value).
The interview is basically just an IQ test made up of algorithmic puzzles. If your buddy is a Nerd then he simply needs to study more. I passed because I autistically did Leetcode for probably 500 hours, not because I give a shit about algorithms.
